Sesser, Illinois, US is a city in Franklin County, founded in 1907 and incorporated in 1909. It was named after the president of the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway, John W. Sesser. The city's economy was initially based on coal mining, but it has since diversified. Sesser is home to the historic Sesser Water Tower, a 175-foot-tall structure built in 1907, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
