West Salem is a village in Edwards County, Illinois, US. It was established in 1836 and incorporated in 1873. The village is named after Salem, Massachusetts, the hometown of one of its founders. West Salem is known for its well-preserved historic buildings, including the West Salem United Methodist Church, which was built in 1874 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The village has a population of approximately 500 residents and covers an area of 0.7 square miles.
