Brownstown is a town in Jackson County, Indiana, US. It was platted in 1816 and incorporated in 1838. The town is named after Jacob Brown, a commander in the War of 1812. Brownstown has a historic downtown district with several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town is also home to the Jackson County Fairgrounds, a popular venue for annual events and festivals.
