Monroe, IN, US is a town in Adams Township, Jay County. It was platted in 1837 and named after President James Monroe. The town was incorporated in 1872. Monroe's growth was fueled by the arrival of the railroad in the 1860s. The Jay County Fairgrounds, a notable attraction, has been hosting the annual county fair since 1851.
