Spencer, Indiana, US is the county seat of Owen County. It was platted in 1820 and incorporated as a town in 1838. The town was named after Captain Spencer of the Indiana Rangers. Spencer is home to the T.C. Steele State Historic Site, the former home and studio of the Indiana artist Theodore Clement Steele. The site includes 10 acres of gardens and wooded trails.
