Colby, Kansas, US is a city in Thomas County, founded in 1885. It was named after Samuel Colby, a general manager of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. The city served as a shipping point for livestock and farm products. Colby is home to the Prairie Museum of Art and History, which features exhibits on the region's cultural and natural history, including a full-scale replica of a pioneer town. Today, Colby has a population of approximately 5,000 people and is a hub for agriculture and education in northwest Kansas.
