De Soto, Kansas, US is a city in Johnson and Leavenworth counties, founded in 1857. It was named after the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. The city was originally a stop on the Oregon and California trails, and later became a railroad town. The city is home to the De Soto Speedway, a popular dirt track for car racing. Today, De Soto has a population of approximately 6,000 people and is a growing suburban community.
