Elwood, Kansas, US is a city located in Doniphan County. It was established in 1855 and incorporated in 1857, making it one of the oldest cities in the state. The city was named after Elwood Evans, a prominent lawyer and politician. Elwood is home to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Shops, which were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The shops were a significant contributor to the city's growth and development in the early 20th century.
