Blackey, Kentucky is a small unincorporated community located in Letcher County. It was established in the late 1800s and was named after a local postmaster's dark hair. The community was once home to a sizeable coal mining operation, which has since declined. Today, Blackey is known for the historic Blackey United Methodist Church, built in 1910, which features Gothic Revival architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
