Sicily Island is a village located in the northeastern part of Louisiana, United States, in Catahoula Parish. It has a population of around 500 residents and covers an area of 0.7 square miles. The island was named after Sicily, Italy, by the Italian explorer, Hernando de Soto, in 1542. The village is home to the Sicily Island Hills, a unique natural landmark, which is the only exposed portion of an ancient ocean floor in Louisiana. The hills offer recreational activities such as hiking, bird watching, and picnicking.
