Bergland, Michigan is a village in the southwestern part of the state, in Ontonagon County. It was established in 1902 during the mining boom and named after a local mining company. The village's population peaked in the 1920s, with over 1,000 residents, but has since declined to just over 200. Bergland is known for its proximity to the Ottawa National Forest, which offers numerous recreational opportunities, including hiking, fishing, and skiing. The forest is home to the Bergland Center, a historic log building that serves as a community center and museum.
