Browns Valley, Minnesota, located in Traverse County, is the state's northwest-most community. Established in 1868, it was named after Joseph R. Brown, a prominent figure in regional history. Brown served as a delegate to the 1858 treaty negotiations with the Sisseton and Wahpeton bands of the Dakota Nation. The town is home to the Browns Valley Archaeological Society, which manages the Browns Valley Man Site, a notable landmark featuring prehistoric remains dating back 10,000 years.
