Pilot Knob, Missouri is a small town in Iron County, with a population of just over 700 as of the 2020 census. It is named after a physical knob of rock that served as a landmark for pioneer travelers on the Wire Road. The town is best known for the Battle of Pilot Knob, which took place during the Civil War in 1864 and is now commemorated at the Battle of Pilot Knob State Historic Site. The site features a museum, restored fortifications, and a driving tour of the battlefield.
