West, Mississippi is a town in the Mississippi Delta, located in Sharkey County. It was established in 1885 and incorporated in 1893. The town was named after Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's wife, Lydia McLane Johnston. West is known for its historic downtown district and the Dockery Farms plantation, a significant site in the development of the blues music genre.
