Black Mountain, North Carolina, US is a town in Buncombe County, located 15 miles east of Asheville. It was incorporated in 1893 and has a population of approximately 8,000 residents. The town is named after a dark, steep-sided mountain located to the south. Black Mountain College, a liberal arts school that operated from 1933 to 1957 and attracted many notable artists and intellectuals, is a significant part of the town's history. The town is also home to the Monte Vista Hotel, a historic hotel that has been in operation since 1919.
