Bolivia, North Carolina, located in Brunswick County, was established in 1795 and named after the South American country of Bolivia. It was incorporated as a town in 1858. The town is home to the Bolivia Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which features well-preserved examples of Victorian architecture. Bolivia is also the site of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a residential professional development center for educators.
