Carthage is a town in Moore County, North Carolina, US, established in 1796. It was named after the ancient Phoenician city of Carthage. The town served as a key transportation hub during the Civil War, with the construction of the Carthage Railroad. Carthage is home to the House in the Horseshoe, a historic plantation house that played a role in the Revolutionary War. This well-preserved structure, built in 1772, is now a North Carolina State Historic Site.
