Coats, North Carolina, US is a town in Harnett County, established in 1889 and named after Wiatt A. Coats, the president of the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railroad. The town was incorporated in 1891 and has since grown to a population of approximately 2,100 (as of 2010). Coats is home to the Coats Museum, a notable landmark that showcases the town's history and the impact of the railroad on its development. The museum is located in the former home of Wiatt A.
