Rutherfordton, North Carolina, US is a town in Rutherford County, established in 1787. It is one of the oldest towns in the state and serves as the county seat. The town was named after Griffith Rutherford, a general in the American Revolutionary War. Rutherfordton is home to the historic Bechtler House, a National Historic Landmark, which was the site of the first US gold mint west of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
