The township covers an area of 19.6 square miles and, as of 2020, has a population of approximately 1,550 residents. Newfield is known for its rural atmosphere and the historic Gibbstown-Paulsboro Railroad, which has been in operation since 1863 and is now part of the Conrail Shared Assets Operations.
