Belen, New Mexico, located in Valencia County, was founded in 1740 and incorporated as a city in 1918. It was a stop along the historic El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro trade route. The city is named after the town's belén (Bethlehem) church, which was established in 1793. Belen is known for the Harvey House Museum, a former hotel and restaurant that was part of the Fred Harvey Company's chain of hotels and restaurants along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
