Rockaway Park is a neighborhood located in the New York City borough of Queens, US. It is situated on the Rockaway Peninsula, which is a barrier island separating the Atlantic Ocean from Jamaica Bay. The area was originally settled by the Lenape tribe and later developed as a summer resort for wealthy New Yorkers in the late 19th century. Today, it is known for its 5.5-mile-long (8.9 km) beach, which is a popular destination for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing. The neighborhood is also home to the Rockaway Park branch of the Queens Public Library, a notable landmark that was designed by architect William B. Tubby and opened in 1930.
