Mt. Vernon, Ohio, US is a city in Knox County, founded in 1805. It was named after George Washington's plantation, Mount Vernon, and is the county seat. The city is known for its historic downtown district, which includes the Woodward Opera House, built in 1890 and restored in 2018. Mt. Vernon is also home to the Muskingum University, founded in 1837. The city has a population of approximately 17,000, as of the 2020 census.
