Kaw City, Oklahoma, located in Kay County, was established in 1895. It was named after the Kaw Nation, also known as the Kansa tribe, who once inhabited the area. The town was rebuilt in its current location in the 1950s when the Arkansas River was dammed, forming Kaw Lake.
