Newalla, Oklahoma, located in Pottawatomie County, was originally a settlement of the Pottawatomie tribe. The town was named after a Pottawatomie leader, Newallay, and was established in the late 1800s. In 1902, the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad was built through Newalla, contributing to its growth. The Newalla Community Center, built in 1936, is a notable landmark, serving as a gathering place for community events and activities. Today, Newalla has a population of approximately 1,500 people.
