Newkirk, Oklahoma, US is the county seat of Kay County, established in 1894. It was originally a railroad town, founded by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The town was named after Benjamin Franklin Newkirk, a cattleman and early settler. Newkirk is home to the historic Newkirk Depot, which was built in 1903 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
