Quapaw, OK, is a town in Ottawa County, located in the northeastern corner of the state. It was established in 1898 as a home for members of the Quapaw tribe, who were forcibly relocated from their ancestral lands in Arkansas. The town is named after the tribe, whose name means "downstream people" in their own language. Today, Quapaw is known for its historic downtown area, which includes the Old Tribal Council House, a notable landmark that was built in 1875 and served as the seat of government for the Quapaw tribe until 1907.
