Stoystown, Pennsylvania, US is a small town in Somerset County, founded in the 1770s by German immigrants. It is known for its role in the Underground Railroad, a network of secret routes and safe houses used by enslaved African Americans to escape to freedom before the Civil War. The town is home to the Flight 93 National Memorial, which honors the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93, who died on September 11, 2001, when the plane crashed in a field near Stoystown during the hijacking.
