Clarks Hill, SC, US is a small town located in McCormick County, near the Georgia border. It was originally inhabited by the Cherokee and Catawba tribes before European settlers arrived in the late 1700s. The town was officially established in the mid-1800s and was named after the Clark family, who were prominent landowners in the area. Today, Clarks Hill is best known for the Clarks Hill Lake, a large reservoir created by the construction of the Strom Thurmond Dam in 1954, which is a popular destination for boating, fishing, and camping.
