Parkston, South Dakota, located in Hutchinson County, was founded in 1880. It was named after Edward Parkinson, a railroad official. The town was incorporated in 1887 and has since grown to a population of approximately 1,500. Parkston is known for its notable landmark, the "World's Largest Pheasant," a 22-foot tall statue made of fiberglass, which was erected in 1961 to celebrate the area's pheasant hunting heritage.
