Decatur, Tennessee, US, is a city in Meigs County founded in 1836. It was named after Stephen Decatur, a naval officer famous during the Barbary Wars. The city played a significant role during the Civil War as a Confederate supply center. Decatur is home to the historic Strawberry Plains, a 1,200-acre estate and farm that once belonged to William G. Brownlow, a governor of Tennessee after the Civil War.
