Pleasant Hill, Tennessee is a small town in Cumberland County, established in the 19th century. It was named after a church in the area, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The town was primarily an agricultural community, with residents growing crops such as corn and tobacco. During the Civil War, the town was occupied by both Union and Confederate troops. A notable landmark is the Sam Davis Home, located just outside of Pleasant Hill. Sam Davis, a Confederate soldier, was captured near the home and executed as a spy, making it an important historical site.
