Archer City, Texas, US is a small town located in the rolling plains of North Texas. It has a population of around 1,800 and covers an area of 2.2 square miles. The town was established in 1880 and named after Branch T. Archer, a former Texas Secretary of State. Archer City is known for its small-town charm and its notable attraction, the Royal Theater, which was built in 1929 and has been fully restored. The town was also the inspiration for the fictional town of Thalia in Larry McMurtry's novels, including "The Last Picture Show."
