Cameron, Texas, located in Milam County, was established in 1846 and incorporated in 1858. It was named after Ewen Cameron, a Scottish-born merchant and politician. The town served as a commercial center for the surrounding agricultural area and was a stop on the historic Chisholm Trail. The most notable landmark in Cameron is the Milam County Courthouse, a beautiful example of Romanesque Revival architecture, which was built in 1890 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
