Claude, Texas, located in Armstrong County, is the county seat and was established in 1909. It was named after Claude A. Howard, the son of a local rancher. The town's growth was spurred by the arrival of the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway. Claude is home to the Armstrong County Museum, which showcases the area's history and culture, including its ranching heritage. As of the last census, the population was approximately 1,300.
