Cumby is a town in Hopkins County, Texas, with a population of approximately 800 as of 2019. It was established in the late 1870s and named after an early settler, James Cumby. The town was originally a farming community, but the discovery of oil in the area in the early 20th century led to a boom in population and economic growth.
