Dalhart, Texas, US is a city in Dallam and Hartley counties, established in 1901 through the merger of two towns, Dalhart being a portmanteau of their names. It serves as the seat of Dallam County. The city's growth was spurred by the arrival of the Pecos Valley Railroad and the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. Notable for its agricultural economy, Dalhart is also home to the XIT Rodeo and Reunion, an annual event that started in 1930, making it one of the oldest rodeos in the country.
