Emory, Texas, located in Rains County, was established in 1872 and named after Robert A. Emory, a president of Southern Methodist University. The town served as a commercial center for the surrounding agricultural area. In 1931, the town's population peaked at 1,500, but it has since decreased to around 1,200. Emory is home to Lake Tawakoni State Park, a notable attraction known for its fishing, boating, and camping opportunities.
