Lorena, Texas, located in McLennan County, was established in the late 1800s. It was named after Lorena Bird, the daughter of an early settler. The town was a stop on the historic Chisholm Trail, used for driving cattle from Texas to Kansas. Today, Lorena is known for its well-preserved historic downtown district, which includes the Lorena Mercantile, a general store built in 1902 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
