Stamford, Texas, located in Jones County, was established in 1898 and incorporated in 1900. It was named after Stamford, Connecticut, and served as a cattle shipping point on the Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma Railroad. The city is home to the Texas Cowboy Reunion Rodeo, an annual event that has taken place since 1931 and is now held at the Texas Cowboy Reunion Rodeo Grounds. Stamford's population was 3,124 as of the 2020 census.
