Pamplin, VA, located in rural Appomattox County, was established in the late 19th century as a railroad town. It was named after Robert Russa Moton's (born near Pamplin) father, Peter Pamplin, a local farmer and businessman. The town is known for the Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, which features a Civil War–era farm, trenches, and a soldiers' hospital. Today, Pamplin has a population of around 200 and is a quiet, historic community.
