Belle, West Virginia, located in Kanawha County, was incorporated in 1913. The town was named after the Belle Coal Company, a subsidiary of the New York Coal Company. During the early 20th century, Belle became a significant center for coal mining and processing, with the construction of the large-scale Belle Island Terminal. Today, it is home to the popular Belle Historic District, which features well-preserved examples of early 20th-century industrial architecture.
