Farmington, West Virginia, US is a small town in Marion County, established in 1897. It was named after Farmington, Michigan, the original home of one of its founders. The town is known for its rich coal mining history and the Farmington No. 9 Disaster in 1968, where an explosion in the local Consolidation Coal Company mine resulted in the loss of 78 lives. A notable attraction is the Fairview United Methodist Church, built in 1922, which is a beautiful example of Gothic Revival architecture.
