Fort Gay is a town in Wayne County, West Virginia, United States, situated on the banks of the Big Sandy River. It was established in 1789, named after a fort built to protect local settlers from Native American attacks. The town was incorporated in 1931 and has a population of around 700. A notable attraction is the Fort Gay Bridge, a steel through arch bridge built in 1938, which spans the Big Sandy River and connects Fort Gay to Louisa, Kentucky.
