Lavalette is a census-designated place (CDP) in Mingo County, West Virginia, United States. It was established in the early 20th century, during a coal boom in the region. The community was named after the Lavalette Coal Company, which operated in the area. The CDP has a population of just over 1,000 residents, as of the 2020 census. A notable attraction in Lavalette is the Mingo Oak, a large white oak tree that is over 400 years old and is one of the largest trees of its kind in the state.
