Seward, Alaska, located in the Kenai Peninsula, was founded in 1903 as a shipping and railroad town. It is named after William H. Seward, the Secretary of State who negotiated the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867. The town was destroyed by fire in 1912 and rebuilt. Today, Seward is a popular tourist destination, known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities, including the Kenai Fjords National Park, where visitors can take boat tours to see glaciers and wildlife.
