Skagway, Alaska, US is a historic town located in the Chilkat Valley of the Alaska Panhandle. It was established in 1897 as a gateway for the Klondike Gold Rush and quickly grew to a population of 10,000. Today, it has a population of around 1,000 residents. Skagway is known for its well-preserved historic district, which features many buildings from the gold rush era, including the Mascot Saloon. The White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad, a narrow gauge railroad that climbs from Skagway to the White Pass summit, is a notable attraction and a National Historic Landmark.
