Anniston, Alabama, located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, is the county seat of Calhoun County. It was founded in 1872 as a center for iron and steel manufacturing. The city was named after Annie Scott Tyler, the daughter of one of the area's ironmasters. Anniston is home to the Anniston Museum of Natural History, which features over 2,000 exhibits and is known for its large collection of fossils and dioramas.
