Hazel Green, Alabama, located in Madison County, was established in the early 19th century. It was named after one of the first settlers, Hazel Green Robinson. The town was a stop on the Texas road, a major stagecoach route in the antebellum era. During the Civil War, Hazel Green was occupied by both Union and Confederate forces. Today, the town is home to the historic Hazel Green Academy, a private school founded in 1853, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
