Saraland, Alabama, located in Mobile County, is a young city incorporated in 1957. It was originally part of the sizable Searcy family plantation. In 1895, the area became known as Saraland when the family of Joseph Searcy, a railroad worker, established a post office. The city was named after his wife, Sarah. Today, Saraland is the third-largest city in Mobile County and is home to the Lake Forest YMCA, a notable landmark offering various recreational activities and community programs.
